DBasia.news – Manchester City attacking midfielder, Riyad Mahrez, has the chance to score the goal by the penalty kick when his team played against Liverpool in the 8th week of 2018-2019 Premier League at Anfield, Sunday (7/10). Unfortunately, he failed to finish the task.
Mahrez said all players must do a failure in executing the penalty kick. Manchester City got the golden opportunity to win after Leroy Sane involved in a foul by Virgil van Dijk in the forbidden box before the match ended. Mahrez was appointed as the executor considering Sergio Aguero has been sidelined.
Unfortunately, Mahrez wasted the chance. The former Leicester City player kicked the ball too high.
“My record is good in the Champions League yes, but not in the Premier League. We have to go forward and stay strong,” Mahrez said after the match, quoted by Soccerway.
“It won’t affect me at all. Everyone misses penalties, even big, big players,” he added.
“Of course I wanted to score to help the team to win. I made the decision to shoot in the middle – the ball went up,” he said.
Mahrez didn’t want to be sad for too long. He considered that his team played well.
“Now I have to look forward. It’s part of football – sometimes you score, sometimes you miss. But the most important part was that our performance was very good. We deserved to win, but sometimes it’s important not to lose, as well.”
With the result, the competition in the Premier League is getting more intense. Now, Man City, Liverpool, and Chelsea are collecting 20 points.
