Man City have a line of fantastic records after celebrating the goal against Leeds

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Manchester City showed their status as defending Premier League champions when they hosted Leeds United on week 17, Wednesday (15/12) morning WIB, at Ettihad Stadium. The Citizens won 7-0.

Seven of City’s goals under Pep Guardiola came from Phil Foden (8′), Jack Grealish (13′), Kevin De Bruyne (32′ 62′), Riyad Mahrez (49′), John Stones (74′) and Nathan Ake ( 78′).

Leeds became breathless in trying to develop their game. Marcelo Bielsa’s team lost control of the ball by 65 to 35%, City also released a total of 31 attempted kicks and 15 shots on target.

“It was a good game. The atmosphere at the stadium was phenomenal. Tickets were sold out today and when it happened the players felt it. Thank you so much to all of them and to put on a performance like this is a pleasure,” said Guardiola after the game.

City temporarily top the Premier League standings with 41 points from 17 matches, followed by Liverpool (37 points) and Chelsea (36 points) who have only played 16 times.

The win also led to an interesting record from Pep Guardiola, the Spanish coach who has coached City since 2016. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach became the fastest coach to reach 500 Premier League goals in the team he coached.

Guardiola only needed 207 games to reach it, while behind him are Jurgen Klopp (234 games), Sir Alex Ferguson (265 games), Arsene Wenger (271 games), Jose Mourinho (289 games) and Rafael Benitez (329 games).

The speed of City’s 500 goals in the Guardiola era in the Premier League cannot be separated from the offensive football philosophy he applies. Apart from that achievement, there are other interesting statistics from the match. Here’s the review:

1.            Only two teams in English top-flight history have won 33 league games in a calendar year: Liverpool in 1982 and Man City in 2021.

2.            Foden scored his first Premier League goal since October, Grealish since August, De Bruyne since October, Mahrez scored his 50th goal for City.

3.            Leeds United suffered the worst defeat in the club’s history in the Premier League in all competitions.

4.            The result was City’s highest-scoring win after an 8-0 win against Watford in September 2019.

5.            From 568 matches in Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching career, this is the first time his team has conceded seven goals.

6.            Kevin De Bruyne has been directly involved in 80 goals in 83 Premier League games as a starter at the Etihad Stadium, scoring 30 goals and providing 51 assists.
