Manchester United’s Performance Anomaly Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Upbringing

DBasia.news –  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, manager of Manchester United, no longer has a target to be pursued by his foster children this season. The chance to play in the Champions League next season has also ended.

Against Huddersfield Town, the base of the Premier League standings which have been relegated in Week 37 of the Premier League, Sunday (5/5) evening, the Red Devils were unable to win and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Having being ahead through a goal scored by Scott McTominay, Man United’s game slackened in the second half until finally Isaac Mbenza scored. The 1-1 position ended Man United’s chance to enter the top four and play in the Champions League next season.

Four points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur who are ranked fourth in the standings and leaving one last game, Man United can no longer overtake Tottenham even if they later win victory over Cardiff City (12/5).

Most people, the public, or observers of English football blames Solskjaer for United’s slump. However, one observer of English football, Chris Sutton, did not agree with this opinion.

“I do not understand the criticism that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer received. He took over the damage from (Jose) Mourinho,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“They (the players) are not his recruits, this is not his team. I think he has done a great job, even bringing them into competition again (after being thrown away from the top four).”

Sutton may say so. In fact, United’s management were too fast with their decision to make Solskjaer’s contract permanent, which was initially appointed as a caretaker (interim manager) until the end of the 2018-19 season when replacing Mourinho last December.

All went well with his status as a temporary manager with a record of 14 wins, two draws and three defeats. @FoxSoccer saw that Solskjaer has a goal average of 40:17 goals and 737 percent winning percentage.

However, since March 28, 2019 when Solskjaer was permanently contracted, United only won twice, drew twice and lost five times with a goal average of 7:16 goals and 222 percent winning percentage.

These statistics show a significant decline. Nevertheless, the assessment of Solskjaer will look fair if he has been given the opportunity to purchasw the desired players in the transfer market and lead the team in the preseason.

The 2018-19 season will always be remembered as the worst season as United, two consecutive seasons, failed to win the trophy and was made worse by the fact that they failed to play in the Champions League next season.
