DBasia.news – Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-2 defeat of Burnley at Turf Moor, week 27 of the Premier League on Saturday (23/2) night Western Indonesian Time, seemed to end the Spurs struggle to win the Premier League title.
The position was equally strong 1-1 to 70 minutes the match took place when Harry Kane replied Chris Wood’s goal in minute 57 on minute 65. However, the Spurs defense missed again which leads to a goal via Ashley Barnes in the 83rd minute.
The defeat was the seventh defeat of the Spurs in the Premier League and their position was in “No Man’s Land”. The term is usually synonymous with land that no one owns, or land that has been contested by both parties.
That is the position of Spurs at this time. The Lilywhites did not fight for the Premier League title, but also did not fight for the top four (Champions League zone) because they were already inside.
Spurs only need to maintain their position so as not to lose many points and then lose a place in the top four of the Premier League. Now, their distance from Manchester City and Liverpool is five points adrift – Man City plays one more match.
The distance can still increase if Liverpool and Man City continue the positive trend to get points. Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs manager, has admitted that Spurs have given up in the fight for the Premier League title.
“Yes (Pochettino’s answer when Spurs are considered no longer able to win the Premier League title). We are very disappointed because there are still 11 matches left, and the point distance still has a greater potential,” Pochettino said in Sky Sports.
“Of course, there are still many matches we have to play. However, we should have won three points in the game against Burnley to put pressure on them (Man City and Liverpool),” he explained.
The defeat was quite unexpected. Spurs had a recovery period of 10 days before the game against Burnley, plus Kane had returned from injury and immediately became a starter. Michael Owen, an observer of English football, has an interesting opinion about Spurs.
“I think, Spurs fans must change their attitude. All the time you hear” Oh, we are Tottenham, we always let go of opportunities (to win the trophy) in the end. ” That’s a very negative attitude, “Owen said.
“I think the Spurs fans must realize that they have a good team. Begin to believe that they will win something because that can be channeled in the match. Pochettino is working on it slowly, by forming a winning mentality.”
Spurs are now just trying to maintain their position in the top three of the Premier League while trying to go as far as possible in the Champions League. Spurs won 3-0 over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the last 16 of the Champions League.
