DBasia.news –  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, manager of Manchester United, was asked by his former teammate, Jaap Stam, to be firm with players in his squad.

Stam and Solskjaer continued to meet in a charity match between the 1999 Champions League final squad United and Bayern Munich at Old Trafford (26/5) evening WIB.

Stam, former United center back in 1998-2001, wants Solskjaer to be more assertive with his latest squad. The Norwegian manager must choose who is worthy of being kept in the squad or sold to other clubs.

“I think we obviously need some quality on the front lines, in the center, and also in the back line. You want a competitive squad with each other,” Stam said firmly when speaking to Sky Sports.

“Everyone wants to encourage each other to get the most out of everything – to achieve something. Managers and clubs must see all that. After a few seasons ago and how things went, I think it’s good to reevaluate everything on the team.”

“Look at the players, what they have done and what they have achieved. In fact, for players who have three or four seasons contracts – you have to make decisions for them and what you want to do with them.”

“In the end, the most important thing, is to reach the targets that you set out, sometimes you have to make a difficult decision to do it,” explained the Dutch man.

Man United ended the 2018/19 season without a trophy and failed to enter the top four of the Premier League. It is predicted that the club will overhaul its squad this summer.
