Premier League Admits the VAR has made a mistake in Three Games

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Premiere League claimed there was a mistake made by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in three Premiere League matches which took place on Friday (10/7) AM. This was confirmed directly from the Premiere League to BBC Match Of The Day.

Bruno Fernandes won the penalty kick that he scored when Manchester United won 3-0 over Aston Villa. James Ward-Prowse’s strike struck the crossbar after a disputed penalty occurred when Southampton drew 1-1 with Everton. While Tottenham Hotspur should have been awarded a penalty when Joshua King pushed Harry Kane in box 16 in the 0-0 draw against Bournemouth.

The Premiere League ensured that Manchester United and Southampton should not have received a penalty, but Tottenham should be given one penalty.

Former Everton midfielder, Tim Cahill, BBC Match of the Day pundit, said a former player must be involved to work with VAR at Stockley Park.

“I think it will really help them to understand the movement,” said the former Australian player international, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“When a player falls to execute a penalty, you can feel it. There must be a player there to advise on what the player is doing.”

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho said everyone in the world would agree his team should have received a penalty, regardless of the decision of VAR referee, Michael Oliver. King pushed Kane from behind as he tried to clear Tottenham’s cross, but referee Paul Tierney did not issue a penalty. Oliver chose not to intervene in the decision despite witnessing a violation through VAR.

Oliver, who will be the referee for the north London derby against Arsenal, was also a VAR officer when Kane’s goal was annulled in the 1-3 defeat of Tottenham from Sheffield United last week.

“Like Sheffield, the match player is not one of the players. But in Sheffield I can blame myself and the players, today I’m unable to do that,” Mourinho said in his anger at Oliver.

BBC Match of the Day member, Dion Dublin agreed Tottenham should have received a penalty. “Obviously because Harry prepared himself to welcome the ball and he was fouled. It was a penalty,” Dublin stated.
