Premier League disagrees with the Five Substitution Rules

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The rules for replacing five players will not be carried out in the Premier League in the 2020-2021 season. The entire team has agreed to return to the old rule, which is a maximum of three substitutions.

The five-change rule was implemented by the majority of the world’s leagues during the pandemic. It was an idea from FIFA which was approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

The purpose of this rule is to prevent players from being injured. Competition schedules were tightened up during the pandemic period to cut down on delayed execution times.

IFAB then suggested the regulation to be continued until 2021. The goal is the same, namely to avoid players from fatigue which could make them easily infected with the corona virus.

However, the idea was rejected by the Premier League. The decision was taken at the General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS), Thursday (6/8) local time.

“The club agrees to return to using up to three substitutes per match, with a maximum of seven substitutes on the bench,” wrote a statement from the Premier League.

The rule to replace five players has drawn a lot of criticism. This is considered to be beneficial for big teams who have evenly distributed player material.

In addition, the Premier League will also remove the water break policy. The short breaks in each half will no longer apply as England has passed the peak of summer.

The 2020-2021 Premier League will start on September 19. Competition is predicted to be tighter as traditional teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have shown progress with their managers.
