DBasia.news –  Serie A contestants allegedly will experience a reduction in participants from 20 to 18. Gaetano Micchiche, CEO of Serie A, announces it.

A discourse to reduce the number of Serie A teams has been requested by a number of teams. Napoli is the loudest club voicing this.

Indeed, Serie A had been joined by 18 teams in the past. However, changes have occurred since 2004 when managers changed the number of teams that could participate.

Unfortunately, this did not improve the quality of Serie A. As a result, demand reduced the number of clubs so that more competitive competitions were submitted.

Serie A has weighed the decision and got the green light from the FIGC. Even so, there are still a number of considerations for executing the idea.

“In the top European leagues, only the Bundesliga that does not have 20 teams. In the last meeting, the FIGC invited Serie A to determine the number of participants, 20 or 18,” said Gaetano Micchiche.

“We will make a decision by considering the advantages and disadvantages. I am happy that FIGC has allowed Serie A to determine the most suitable format.”

“There are many teams that will compete for the Champions League and Europa League. Fans and pundits will also be more enthusiastic,” continued the CEO of Serie A.

Currently, Serie A is ranked fourth in the UEFA temporary coefficient. They are under LaLiga, Bundesliga and Premier League.
