It wasn’t easy for him, who has no break after supporting South Korea in the 2018 World Cup, and Son played in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

Son actually chose to stay in Tottenham and skipped the Asian Games, the event that isn’t listed in FIFA calendar. But in order to avoid the military obligation, Son played in the Asian Games and brought the team as the champion for two consecutive times.

Free of the military service usually made the players or sports athlete excited hence the relaxed feeling. But, it’s different to Son. Besides admitting that he played in the Asian Games not to avoid the military service, Son also insisted his commitment to maintaining the winning draught for the success in Tottenham.

“Some players get out of the army and don’t care anymore. I don’t want to do that, I want to be even hungrier and work even harder. It always pays off,” Son told Sky Sports.

“I’m very grateful and thankful and felt sorry for my team-mates and the fans (during the Asia Cup). I could feel they missed me and I missed them as well. But we won the cup, I’m very happy, and I was very proud to come back to show the fans.”

“I wasn’t thinking about military service, the first thing was to go there and win the tournament. Of course, I wondered in the tournament if I was in a good position, but my goal wasn’t to avoid the army. Now, I’m in a good position of course, but I’m still hungry, and work really hard to make sure I don’t disappoint the fans,” Son explained.

Son’s arrival in Tottenham is a good news for Mauricio Pochettino. He has many options in the attacking field to keep the momentum of the club, after the 2-1 winning from Brighton & Hove Albion and defeated Watford in the third round of the League Cup.
