DBasia.news – The Swedish National Team won an important victory against Slovakia in the second match of Group E of the 2020 European Cup. This result kept the chance for the team nicknamed the Blagult to advance to the round of 16.

Playing at Krestovsky Stadium, Friday (18/6), Sweden won with a score of 1-0. The duel of the two dark horse teams was tough.

Sweden and Slovakia started the match at a fairly slow tempo. Both teams look very careful because of the crucial outcome of this match.

Slovakia was able to first provide a threat when the game has been running for five minutes. Unfortunately, Juraj Kucka’s header took advantage of Marek Hamsik’s corner but still bounced.

In the 13th minute, Sweden turned to threaten the goal of Slovakia. Starting from a dead ball situation, Mikael Lustig was able to win the aerial duel even though his header also bounced over the bar.

After that, the game was quite monotonous. Sweden and Slovakia do not seem to have the creativity to dismantle their opponent’s defense.

This was exacerbated by poor finishing from both teams. The 0-0 draw finally lasted until halftime.

In the second half, the tempo of the game began to increase. Sweden, who needed a win to keep their chances of qualifying for the last 16, played more aggressively.

Sweden had a number of golden opportunities through the actions of Marcus Danielson and Alexander Isak. But the toughness of Martin Dubravka under the Slovak crossbar made the scoreboard never change.

Dewi fortuna finally sided with Sweden after the referee awarded a penalty in the 77th minute. Dubravka is considered to have violated Robin Quaison who penetrated the forbidden box.

Emil Forsberg, who came forward as the executor of the penalty, did not waste this golden opportunity. His shot into the right corner was successful in breaking into the Slovakian goal even though Dubravka was able to read the direction.

In the rest of the game, Slovakia tried to reply. But Milan Skriniar and his friends still failed to equalize until the referee blew the long whistle.

These results make the competition in Group E increasingly fierce. Sweden temporarily overtook Slovakia from the top of the standings with four points.
