The Star of Italy Vs Austria: Federico Chiesa ends the deadlock

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The Italian National Team was frustrated when they defeated Austria 2-1 in the 16th round of the 2020 European Cup. Luckily, Gli Azzurri has a supersub named Federico Chiesa.

In the match which took place at Wembley Stadium, Sunday (27/6) am, WIB, Austria forced Italy to go into extra time. That was after the two teams drew 0-0 for 90 minutes.

Even though Italy dominated the game from the start of the match. A number of golden opportunities were also created by Nicolo Barella and Ciro Immobile.

However, Italy’s efforts did not show results. The solid defense of Austria is the main cause.

Chiesa himself was only entered six minutes before normal time ended. He couldn’t do much in the little time left.

The Juventus player only showed his quality in the extra time round. Chiesa was able to break into the Austrian goal just five minutes after the match resumed.

Receiving Leonardo Spinazzola’s long pass on the right side of the Austrian penalty box, Chiesa exerted perfect control to outwit the opposing defender. He then fired a left-footed half-volley that Daniel Bachmann was unable to stop.

The goal immediately brought down the competing mentality with the Austrian players. Their struggle to hold Italy seemed to be in vain.

Italy could use this to double their advantage through Matteo Pessina’s shot. The score 2-0 to Italy’s advantage closed the first half of extra time.

Austria tried to rise in the second half. They managed to reduce the position through Sasa Kalajdzic’s header.

But the rise of Austria was too late. Italy was able to maintain its victory until the game was over.

This proves how important Chiesa’s goal was in Italy’s victory. If there is no goal, it is possible that the match must proceed to the penalty shootout.

Chiesa himself chose to be humble. He felt that this victory was the result of the hard work of all members of the Italian team.

“Austria played well but we had chances and we scored some good goals. I think we deserved to go through,” Chiesa said after the game.

“We are a team of 26 players and we all want to help the team win. This is what made the difference in this game.”

One goal against Austria has made Chiesa worthy of being given more roles by Mancini. Moreover, Domenico Berardi’s performance was not optimal.

It is possible that Chiesa will be installed as a starter in the upcoming quarter-final match. It is also possible that he will return to the role of supersub to take Italy further.
