DBasia.news –  The story of Edin Dzeko’s childhood was like everyine else’s during the civil war in Yugoslavia and the Balkan Peninsula.

Born in Sarajevo, which used to be part of Yugoslavia, 33 years ago, Edin Dzeko claimed to have felt the pain when his country was destroyed.

“During the war, I experienced a time when I had to stop playing football on the street when the sirens sounded,” recalled Dzeko.

As a child, Dzeko was not very familiar with the conditions and danger situations that occurred. He only obeys when his parents asks to stop.

“When I was 6 years old, I knew what was happening. However, I didn’t think of it too much,” said the Bosnia-Herzegovina striker.

“However, my parents are always worried. Without them, I might not be here like I am now.” said the player born in March 1986.

The civil war ended four years later. New problems arose for Dzeko, who was only 10 years old at the time.

“Everything has been destroyed. There is nothing left, including the soccer field,” said Dzeko.

“At that time, I remember my father taking me to the Zeljeznicar club to train and need to change buses and trains to get there,” he continued.

However, after arriving at the training ground, Dzeko and his father no longer found a suitable training ground.

“We trained on the school grounds because the club’s small stadium was destroyed,” explained the son of Midhat and Belma Dzeko.

His father, Midhat, had a big role in Dzeko’s soccer career. In the midst of his busy life, his father could still take Dzeko to practice.

“It takes more than an hour to the practice site from home. However, even though he is busy working, he could still take me to practice,” said Dzeko.

“When practicing, he always gave me bananas,” he added.

According to Dzeko, Midhat is a type of father who is very pampering and willing to fight for his children.

“Even in the worst moments, he always does everything for me and my sister,” he continued.

The fruit of his father ‘s labour against his son was at 2003. Edin Dzeko broke into Zeljeznicar’s senior team.

“At that time, we were in the shopping center. Then, there was a call from the coach that I would play for the first team the next day,” said Dzeko.

“As soon as I told my father, he was immediately shocked and asked when, where and against who,” he aded.

According to Dzeko, the moment when he told his father he would play was a special moment.

“Father has always been there since I took the first step. Every training after the war, we went everywhere together,” he recalled.

Zeljeznicar was Edin Dzeko’s first club. After being part of the academy since 1996, he penetrated the first team in 2003.

After that, he came across a number of clubs, including competing in the English League and the German League. Summer of 2016, he then tested the Italian League with AS Roma.
