Tuchel can’t comment on Lukaku
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Romelu Lukaku was in the spotlight when Chelsea struggled to beat Crystal Palace in the 2021-2022 Premier League. The Belgian striker seemed to be imprisoned on the front lines.
In the match which took place at Selhurst Park, Saturday (19/2), Chelsea were only able to win 1-0. Hakim Ziyech scored the only goal for the Blues at the end of the match.
Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel fielded his best players in this match. This allowed them to dominate the game.
Romelu Lukaku is heavily guarded by the Crystal Palace defense.
But Lukaku who was installed as the spearhead seemed isolated. He recorded only seven touches throughout the game.
That is the fewest touches a player has made in a Premier League game since 2003-2004. Lukaku even made only two touches throughout the first half, one of which was a start.
This of course raises a question. Moreover, Chelsea dominated the game and made nine shots, three of which were on target.
“I’m not really sure if I have a good answer. I don’t know what to say to explain this (Lukaku’s minimal touch),” said Tuchel after the game.
“He’s clearly not involved and can’t explain anything today. I’m not sure if that says so much about us in general.”
Lukaku joined Chelsea last summer to add strength up front. He is expected to be the new goal machine that is Tuchel’s mainstay.
But over time, Lukaku seemed to struggle with Tuchel’s style of play. He even criticized this issue openly in the media which caused a commotion.
Lukaku is certainly frustrated with what happened to him in the match against Crystal Palace. It is possible that his relationship with Tuchel will continue to deteriorate.
