Two Premier League Teams Eliminated in FA Cup Fourth Round

DBasia.news –  One of the most awaited phenomenon in the FA Cup is the giant-killing. Two Premier League clubs, West Ham United and Everton became the victim of that phenomenon in the fourth-round of FA Cup.

It was all initiated from the match at Kingsmeadow, the home of AFC Wimbledon, Sunday (27/1). Surprisingly, the League One club defeated West Ham 4-2.

Four goals of Wimbledon came from Kwesi Appiah, two goals of Scott Wagstaff, and Toby Sibbick, responded by the goals from Lucas Perez and Felipe Anderson. The heroic performance of Wally Dones squad is a trending topic in England.

Wimbledon are currently in the bottom of the League One table, 8 points behind the safe zone. They only have the 4,850-seats stadium. They could defeat The Hammers under Manuel Pellegrini with the squad filled with popular names like Andy Carroll, Javier Hernandez, Lucas Perez, Felipe Anderson, and Michail Antonio.

Pellegrini squad are strong enough, statistically, to defeat Wimbledon even though they gave Samir Nasri, Pablo Zabaleta, Aaron Cresswell, and Lukasz Fabianski a break.

“West Ham have conceded four goals in a single FACup game against a side from the third tier or below for the first time since January 1936 when they lost 4-0 to Luton Town in a third-round replay. Shock,” @OptaJoe tweeted.

However, that’s how magical FA Cup is. The public is familiar with the giant-killing phenomenon. The same thing happened to Millwall who defeated Everton 3-2 in The Den.

With only 35:65% ball possession, Millwall could equalize the score after left by the goals from Richarlison and Cenk Tosun. Lee Gregory, Jake Cooper, and Murray Wallace created the goals.

“@MillwallFC are the first side from outside the top-flight to win five consecutive FA Cup home games against top-flight sides since West Ham between 1958 and 1991. Giant-killing,” @OptaJoe tweeted.

Apart from the results, the big teams like Manchester City went to the fifth round after defeating Burnley 5-0.
