UEFA Should Use VAR Soon in Champions League

DBasia.news – The ECA president Andrea Agnelli insisted the UEFA to apply the video assistant referee (VAR) in Champions League and UEFA next season.
“We cannot go back, we want VAR to be adopted in UEFA competitions as soon as possible,” declared Agnelli after speaking in the ECA conference in Split, Croatia.
According to Agnelli, he has discussed it with UEFA president Aleksandar Ceferin, but they have to get the agreement from 53 football federations of the member countries to conduct the VAR preparation.
“We are very respectful with regards to UEFA’s request that the referees are given proper training so they can maintain the standard set by the leagues that have already introduced VAR,” said the Juventus president.
One of the leagues applying VAR is Serie A Italia, where Agnelli’s club compete, also the LaLiga.
“We hope that next season UEFA can be in a position to introduce the technology into the Champions League and Europa League,” he said.
“When you start working with VAR and see that the margin of error is reduced by another five percent, it becomes a path you must go down,” Agnelli added.
VAR was used in the Russia 2018 World Cup and raised some controversies but claimed effective to lessen the wrong decision making by the referee in a match.
