UEFA’s New Rules about Away Goals in the Champions League

Champions League

DBasia.news –  The rules of away goals in the Europa League and Champions League often create controversy, although if seen from many things add the excitement to a match that took place in the second leg.

The regulation states that if there are two teams that have the same aggregate score (starting from the preliminary round after the group phase to the semifinals), then the team that will qualify is the team that scores the most away goals.

This situation has the potential to immediately experience significant changes. According to reports from the US, the European football association, UEFA, is considering the possibility of removing away goal rules.

In September 2018, Atletico Madrid’s main coach, Diego Simeone, expressed his complaints about the regulation, and received support from Carlo Ancelotti (Napoli’s main coach) and Thomas Tuchel (the main coach of Paris Saint-Germain).

One striking example of the team that managed to qualify because of the away goal rule was when AS Roma shocked the world in the 2017/18 Champions League quarter-finals, beating Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico 3-0, after losing to their opponents in the previous leg at Camp Nou with a score of 4-1.
