VAR is in the spotlight because it is considered profitable for Real Madrid

DBasia.news –  In the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday (11/27) morning, the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was once again a highlight. This happened because the VAR’s decision on PSG was considered to be more profitable for Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane’s men enjoyed an extraordinary first half at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Karim Benzema opening a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.

However, despite their dominance during the first 45 minutes, Madrid actually faces the possibility of changing the situation before halftime.

Mauro Icardi broke through the Madrid defense and was recklessly dropped by Thibaut Courtois, although the Argentine striker’s way of falling was quite harsh.

Referee Artur Soares Dias’s first reaction was to give a red card to Courtois, before then consulting with VAR on whether the violation occurred in the box – although many believed PSG deserved a penalty and the goalkeeper was only rewarded with a yellow card according to the current rules.

But what arises is the controversy: the VAR record shows that the previous Marcelo incident fell due to Idrissa Gueye’s push before Courtois violated Icardi, the referee finally paid more attention to the first incident.

Indeed Marcelo was in a position to be violated, but PSG also felt disadvantaged over Soares’s decision and the moment immediately drew criticism from citizens.
