VAR is very much needed in the Premier League after seeing Azpilicueta’s controversial goal

DBasia.news –  Chelsea won when visiting Cardiff City Stadium, headquarters of Cardiff City, in the week of 32 Premier League on Sunday (31/3) night Western Indonesian Time. The Blues won 2-1.

Victor Camarasa took Cardiff ahead on 46 minutes. It took time until near the end of the game for Chelsea to achieve a dramatic victory through goals from Cesar Azpilicueta (84 ‘) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (90 + 1’).

Judging by the team’s second game, Chelsea indeed deserved victory because it dominated possession up to 72 compared to 28 percent. The number of their kicks is 21 to eight – both of them release three kicks on target.

Chelsea’s victory keeps their chances in the top four of the Premier League. Having the advantage of one game delay, like Manchester United, Chelsea are now in sixth place with 60 points and one point adrift with Man United in fourth place.

But that was not the highlight of the match, but it was a moment of controversy when Azpilicueta scored in the 84th minute. Starting from a corner situation, the ball was deflected by Marcos Alonso and Azpilicueta’s header was scored.

In replays, Azpilicueta was in an offside position when he received the ball from Alonso and it can be seen clearly from the show. The referee, Craig Pawson, did not see it as offside because the linesman did not lift the flag.

Suddenly the goal from Azpilicueta immediately enlivened social media (Twitter). Warganet agreed that VAR (Video Assistant Referee) was really needed in the Premier League, England. It’s ironic in the world’s best league but doesn’t keep up with the times.

“The decision was entirely bad for Azpilicueta’s offside goal. Again, British officials showed their incompetence. VAR is needed,” Twitter users said   @TheManUtdWay.

“You know Neil Warnock (Cardiff manager) will be upset with Chelsea’s equalizing goal and it’s not wrong. Azpilicueta is clearly offside two meters away. How can officials miss it?” added Bein Sports presenter, Andy Kerr at   @AndyKerrtv.

“Cardiff looks good for three points that might be very influential in a relegation fight. That goal brought down their fighting spirit.”

If VAR had been implemented in the Premier League, Pawson would most likely annul the goal after discussing with the team in the VAR room –
