VAR thwarted Switzerland’s win over Wales

DBasia.news – The Wales and Switzerland national teams met in the Euro 2020 group A match. However, the duel between the two teams had to end in a draw.

In the match which took place at Baku Olympic Stadium, Azerbaijan, Saturday (12/6), Wales and Switzerland drew 1-1. The two teams had a fierce duel throughout the 90 minutes of the match.

Both teams started the game very carefully. This made the tempo of the game quite slow.

Wales was able to threaten Swiss’ goal first in the 15th minute. Daniel James’s bait from the left was able to be headed by Kieffer Moore, although Yann Sommer was still able to push it away.

Five minutes later, it was Switzerland’s turn to receive a golden opportunity from a corner kick situation. Fabian Schaer continued Xherdan Shaqiri’s pass with a backheel which was also able to be saved by Wales goalkeeper, Danny Ward.

Switzerland slowly began to dominate the game. Several other golden opportunities was able to be created by the team nicknamed the Rossocrociati.

Unfortunately, the bad final finishing meant that no goals were created. The 0-0 score lasted until halftime.

After the break, Switzerland immediately stepped on the pedal. Vladimir Petkovic’s team finally managed to break into Wales’ goal in the 49th minute.

Starting from Shaqiri’s corner, the ball was able to be headed by Breel Embolo without being stopped by Ward. The attacker with the number seven seemed to have made up for the failure to take advantage of a golden opportunity just seconds earlier.

But after winning, Switzerland again lowered the tempo of the game. They actually appeared more defensive to maintain their victory.

Wales used the decision to push back. Gareth Bale and his team mates slowly turned around to lock up Swiss’ defense.

Wales were even able to equalize in the 74th minute. Kieffer Moore headed the ball past Joe Morrell.

A draw has made the game in the remaining time more interesting. Switzerland and Wales are both chasing the winning goal.

Five minutes before normal time ended, Switzerland was able to break into the Wales goal through Mario Gavranovic’s volley kick. However, this goal was disallowed by the referee after checking VAR as the player was first caught being in an offside position.

The 1-1 score finally lasted until the referee blew the long whistle signaling the completion of the game. Switzerland and Wales had to settle for sharing one point.
