Workers of Premier League Clubs Not Salored Properly

Premier League

DBasia.news –  Player price inflation, player nominal earnings are fantastic, and luxury transfer spending for Premier League clubs is very lame when looking at the facts of the workers at these clubs.

In the BBC News report, many janitors, security workers, kitchen workers, and ‘lowly’ staff at Premier League clubs only get wages that are not sufficient to cover their living expenses. This fact was revealed by Citizens UK, an organization that focuses on dealing with social problems in the UK.

Noted, of the 20 Premier League clubs, only four who received accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation, a foundation that fights for a living wage in the UK.

In the UK, companies that have been accredited by Living Wage have committed to providing wages that are in line with actual living standards. According to the foundation, the minimum living wage in the UK is around 9 pounds or around Rp154 thousand per hour. Especially in London, the value of wages is higher, 10.55 pounds per hour.

This figure is indeed slightly higher than the minimum wage set by the government of 8.21 pounds (Rp140 thousand) per hour.

Then who is included in the four clubs that get the accreditation? Only Everton, Liverpool Chelsea and West Ham United. Interestingly, the clubs that fight Championship, one caste under the Premier League, even more, who have received accreditation. Call it a club like Luton Town.

That is, the top clubs in the Premier League that incidentally have a rich status like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Manchester City only pay their workers with minimum wages that are not appropriate.

“I have to struggle to bring food at the dinner table to the family. I often can only buy food at a discount,” said cleaning workers who work at Old Trafford Stadium as reported by the BBC.

“Given the amount of money in football, it would be nice if the club paid a fair wage to their workers,” he said again.

Seeing the conditions, especially after creating a record of money poured by clubs for transfers and player salaries, Citizens UK asked clubs to pay more attention to their workers, mainly by raising wages to be more decent.
